I didn't fit the mold.
Sewed too carelessly,
failing to conform.
Dishes I had dried
sweated still.
Sitting like a lady
seemed physically impossible.
Grades good enough for me
failed to meet her standards.
She encouraged diets
but the pounds piled on.
I wore out slacks and shoes
in nonconformist ways.
Spelling challenged me
and neatness in writing
was unattainable.
I was a challenge for Mother
but the nurturing I retained and conquered
became adequate for life.
