An Act of Kindness

This favor you ask for —
the answer is “no.”
My impulse —
the people-pleaser —
is to quickly say yes.
But I would feel
the knot in my gut
and spend a while
avoiding acting on it
then make an excuse.
Believe me,
“no” is kindness.
