Powerless

The fact is that most alcoholics, for some reason yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink. ~The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Kindle Edition.

It’s the same for the compulsive overeater
of my ilk! Substitute “compulsive overeater”
and “food” for alcoholic and drink!
But for us as well, there is a solution!
For me it’s a food plan of no sugar or sweeteners,
no flour of any kind, and planned meals
without snacking between. And,
like my alcoholic brethren, no alcohol!
The issue cannot be addressed, though,
without a way to satiate the issues
for which food (drink) had been used
as a salve. Instead of another patch,
the Twelve Steps actually resolve the issues!
