Don't Just Do Something

We do so much, we run so quickly, the situation is difficult, and many people say, “Don’t just sit there, do something.” But doing more things may make the situation worse. So you should say, “Don’t just do something, sit there.” Sit there, stop, be yourself first, and begin from there. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace

Elvis Presley? Dwight D. Eisenhower?
The White Rabbit? Clint Eastwood?
Martin Gabel? Adlai Stevenson?
Leonard Lyons? Who originated
the directive  “Don’t just do something,
Sit there” or, alternatively, Stand there.
Perhaps many people played with the words,
but it’s fine with me to give them all credit
for the first use! I just hope to remember
the wisdom and to practice it as needed!
