What Does God Call You?….Can you allow God to call you “darling,” I asked her; “little one” or “sweetheart?” Can you be the child who gladdens your Higher Power’s heart at the mere sight of you? Can you conceive of God as a great heart rather than a great punisher? ~ Overeaters Anonymous. Seeking the Spiritual Path: A Collection from Lifeline. Overeaters Anonymous, Inc.. Kindle Edition.
J. B. Phillips in my childhood
and youth declared boldly,
Your God is too Small. He begins
with the guilty conscience,
varying between morbidly developed
in the sensitive person
and easily ignored and silenced
by the insensitive, making
a very unsatisfactory god.
He considers social mores,
parental influence, God
as a very old-(fashioned)
gentleman living in Heaven.
“Meek and mild” and
a “God in the Box” who pops up
suddenly. And on and on.
Can you conceive of a caring god,
God as a great heart
rather than a great punisher?
We’re accustomed to the idea
of God as we understand God
but are you comfortable
considering how God understands you?
Isn’t that part of God as we understand God?
