Those of us who live this program don’t simply carry the message; we are the message. Each day that we live well, we are well… ~ Overeaters Anonymous. The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous, Second Edition (pp. 86-88). Overeaters Anonymous, Inc.. Kindle Edition.
We each came into the rooms of Recovery
with unmanageable lives, powerless
over our obsession. We kept coming back,
some of us quickly getting the message,
understanding within a few days or weeks
the program others were passing on to us,
some seeing hope, realizing we were where we belonged,
that we had found our people. For others
it took longer but finally we became immersed,
lived the program, used the tools, took the Steps,
and gradually began to live the program
as others carried it to us and we carried it to others.
And after years as we found ourselves
living the program, we continued to carry
the message and gradually realized
we had internalized Recovery so that
we’ve become the message.
As we live lives beyond what we believed possible
we found the profound truth:
Each day that we live well, we are well.
We can wish you nothing more wondrous
than a life of Recovery!
