However short-lived or minor our concern for something other than God may be, when we give it more priority than we give our concern for God and God’s will, we commit idolatry. Thus we all commit idolatry countless times every day. ~ May, Gerald G. Addiction and Grace: Love and Spirituality in the Healing of Addictions (p. 30). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition. We think of idols as being statues,
representations, icons...something
that LOOKS the part. We seldom
would designate as an idol a pet peeve,
a project that dominates our thoughts,
a dress or purse we simply MUST have...
Is there something more important in your life
than your higher power, your faith,
your Recovery? How often in a day are your thoughts
idolatry? Relax, though, fleeting moments
are not us, our status. We are not perfect,
won't be soon. We can, though, surrender
to our Higher Power's will, and do our best
to consistently or routinely move
toward the state of perfection which
we choose as our goal.
