The greatest happiness you can have is knowing that you do not necessarily require happiness. ~ William Saroyan
And what is happiness?
Jocularity? Merriment?
Gaiety? Glee? Euphoria?
Giggling? Or is it contentment?
Satisfaction? The impression
of a job well done?
Is it pleasing someone else,
creating smiles around us?
Or knowing our appreciation
gave another a seldom felt
sense of self-esteem?
Perhaps just easing a heavy load
normally borne solely
by a fellow pilgrim?
