Raggedy Ann

It's black and white, of course,
the picture made in 1947,
small in size, and she and I
are not greatly different sizes.
I lie in the bassinet, babbling,
smiling, laughing. After all,
Mother was busy, Daddy away,
my four-year-old sister
a handful. Why should I not
be content, lying there
often, contented to talk to her,
the doll who paid attention
to me.
