Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. ~ Ralph Waldo EmersonIf we would live serenely today and tomorrow, we certainly need to eliminate these hangovers. This doesn’t mean we need to wander morbidly around in the past. It requires an admission and correction of errors now. Our inventory enables us to settle with the past. When this is done, we are really able to leave it behind us. ~AA World Services Inc. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions (pp. 88-89). AA World Services, Inc. Kindle Edition.
Remorse. Deep regret or guilt for a wrong committed.
How many nights do you lie in bed, remorse throbbing?
Let it go. Be done with the day? How wise is that?
What do we do, then with Step 10?
“10. Continued to take personal inventory
and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.”
We don’t need remorse. But there’s wisdom
in taking care of it as it arises!
As things happen we’ll need to address
we can grow to address on the spot.
If we don’t we tell someone,
usually our sponsor, then with a plan,
we release the remorse.
Then we can set them aside
and forget them as soon as we can.
Tomorrow is a new day,
one we can live so we have no remorse
at the end of that day!
