Everywhere around us, we saw failure and misery transformed by humility into priceless assets. To those who’ve made progress in the Program, humility is simply a clear recognition of what and who we really are—followed by a sincere attempt to become what we could be. ~ Anonymous. A Day at a Time: Daily Reflections for Recovering People (Hazelden Meditations) (Kindle Locations 2528-2529). Hazelden Publishing.Surely it is magic! Drunks in the 30's
struggling for sanity, having lost it
and everything worthwhile they'd had...
Ebby finding it, giving it to Bill, who didn't
at first then did, Bill trying to give it away,
Lois pointing out it didn't fail as long
as Bill stayed sober, Bill stuck in Akron,
desperate, needing a drunk to talk to,
the magic of Bill and Bob. They found
the humility to grasp a simply a clear recognition
of what and who they really were—
followed by a sincere attempt to become
what they could be and building a model
for suffering people everywhere
to do the same and change the world
to what it can be as well.
