I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. ~ Judges 2:3 KJV (story told by Quanah Parker)
Gods we put before our Higher Power
are a trap, a snare, set for us, hidden
in dark corners but on a path we're likely
to choose. That trap is set for us, just for me
or you, the lure one we'll fall for, familiar,
a comfortable fallback, our god du jour.Sugar, chips, fried stuff with a crispy crust,
power, sell-will, a substance or habit
we've chose before. It is doubting the power
of the Power we came to believe
could restore us to sanity,
the Power to whom we surrendered
our will and our lives but jerked them back
when we stood in the dark
unable to see the waiting snare.
