Knowing What I Don't Know

He has the ability to know what he doesn't know, which is a good quality for a politician. ~ Paraphrase of comment on NPR about new president of Mexico
All those years I had to save face,
to act like I knew what I was doing,
what was going on – I had to be right
and in control. I knew it was a lie,
of course, since doubts frothed within,
stuffed down deep so nobody would know
what I knew I didn't know.
How freeing it is, those little words
when spoken earnestly, humbly, freely:
"I don't know." It can be followed with more,
"I'll find out" or "Why don't you ask..." or just "Sorry."
But just the three little gigantic words
suffice.
