Like Counterfeiting Pennies

Honesty is the best policy
but when our self esteem
demands a facade, craves a mask,
we make fake faces to display,
creative veneers to wear,
and counterfeit characters
as a public persona
keeping our creation inept, inane,
since our perceived low self-worth
makes us placated with that tiny me
foregoing to claim if not ourselves
the greatest actor in the repertoire.
